Eight students enjoyed an African drumming circle during elective time, led by Jona Masiya. Jona shared that he has been drumming since he was three years old, having learned from his family, and he now performs as well as teaches. The group began by naming a small ball "Wilson," then used Wilson to introduce themselves. Wilson was then used in a group coordination exercise (see photos). Mr. Masiya taught a drum rhythm, which was used throughout class for traditional games such as Simon Says and Musical Chairs.
Good news! Mr. Masiya will return in a few weeks, so if your child missed out on African Drumming this week, there will be another chance to enjoy this elective.
