Cooking Elective with Chef Clark Congdon

On Monday, we had the special treat of a cooking elective. What a gift to count a chef among the parents of some of our STEAM kiddos!

Chef Clark taught our students about the flavor palate on our tongue, introducing many to a new word: Umami.

He then showed them a recipe for a taco seasoning (to be used on your protein of choice). Once they wrote down the recipe, it was time to bust out the spices and measure out the recipe for themselves.

After creating their taco seasoning, they each got to taste it. I was told it was spicy, but flavorful from several students. Each student got to take their taco seasoning home at the end of the elective.
